ABOUT BIG BANG

This monthly cold reading series is called the BIG BANG WORKS IN PROGRESS series and features five excerpts of works-in-progress from exciting playwrights and screenwriters in the New York City area once a month on Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm at Judson Church, 239 Thompkins St (just south of Washington Square Park. Closest Subway is West 4th Street ACE/BDFM).

Not only that but actors can show up as early as 6:30 pm, get sides, and will be cast on a first-come basis. Anyone can show up to attend the evening whether or not they participate. Community dinner begins at 6:30pm, where a free meal is served and all are welcome (audience members also).

Writers can submit up to 10 pages of any play, screenplay, or pilot. It doesn’t matter what 10 pages, just that the writer would want to hear them. Musicians can submit songs. Excerpts will be selected a week in advance and promoted through social media.  Actors can show up as early as 6:30pm, get sides and will be cast on a first-come basis. There’s even a free meal involved.

The intention here is to create a collaborative in-person environment for writers to experiment, actors to keep their muscles sharp, and musicians to test songs… as we foster new connections and a sense of community free of judgment.  No direct feedback is provided.

Selections for written works are decided on a variety of factors including logistics of planning the evening as a whole for a variety of genres and cast sizes. We hope to feature as many community members as possible. The more attendees show up and participate, even as a supportive audience member, the more likely it will be to be placed into the rotation, as preference for next month will go to those pieces that didn't get a chance to get on stage in an earlier round.
